Gautam Gambhir Praises Kohli and Rohit as World-Class Players
When the ODI squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour was about to be revealed, there was speculation that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might extend their hiatus following their T20 World Cup victory. Despite the rumors, both cricketers made a notable return and were selected for the squad.
Before Team India’s departure for the series, the newly appointed head coach, Gautam Gambhir, along with chief selector Ajit Agarkar, addressed the media. During the press conference, Gambhir spoke highly of Kohli and Rohit, acknowledging their exceptional skills and discussing their future in the sport.
“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma still have plenty of cricket left in them. They are world-class players, and any team would be fortunate to have them. With upcoming events like the Champions Trophy and the series against Australia, and if they maintain their fitness, they could very well be part of the 2027 World Cup,” Gambhir remarked.
Kohli and Rohit last participated in an ODI match during the 2023 World Cup and have since been active only in Test and T20 formats. The ODI segment of the Sri Lanka tour is set to begin on August 2.
