Sunrisers Hyderabad Knock Lucknow Super Giants Out of IPL 2025 Playoff Race with Record Chase

SRH Chase Down 205 to Clinch Dominant Six-Wicket Victory in Lucknow
Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a sensational six-wicket victory against Lucknow Super Giants in a must-win encounter at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium. The match not only produced high-octane performances from both teams but also witnessed the highest successful run chase in IPL history at the venue. With this result, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have officially been eliminated from the playoff race.
Abhishek Sharma headlined the run chase with a stunning 20-ball 59, while contributions from Heinrich Klaasen and Kamindu Mendis ensured SRH reached the target of 206 with 10 balls to spare. Despite half-centuries from Mitchell Marsh (65) and Aiden Markram (61), LSG’s bowling unit faltered at key stages.
LSG’s Aggression with the Bat Sets a Strong Total
Marsh and Markram Power Lucknow in PowerPlay
Lucknow got off to a flying start thanks to an explosive PowerPlay from Marsh and Markram. The duo amassed 69 runs without loss in the first six overs, taking full advantage of inexperienced bowling from debutant Harsh Dubey and the wayward start by Harshal Patel. Marsh was particularly dominant, finding the fence consistently while Markram also chipped in with quick boundaries.

The opening partnership built solid momentum as LSG registered one of the highest PowerPlay scores in Lucknow this season. Their 100-run stand came up in the 10th over, placing the hosts in a commanding position.
SRH Fight Back in the Middle Overs
The middle phase saw a shift in control. Despite LSG being 146/2 by the 15th over, Sunrisers tightened the screws through Eshan Malinga and Zeeshan Ansari, who utilized slower deliveries and tight lines to restrict the scoring. Marsh’s dismissal for 65 slowed LSG’s run rate, and Rishabh Pant’s poor form continued as he fell to a brilliant caught-and-bowled effort from Malinga.
Though Markram reached a well-crafted half-century, LSG struggled to find consistent boundaries in the latter half of this phase.
Sloppy Bowling and Extras Help LSG Cross 200
In the final five overs, LSG added 59 runs but lost five wickets. Despite the resurgence by the SRH bowlers, extras proved costly, especially Harshal Patel’s nine-ball over, which included no-balls and wides. Nitish Reddy conceded 19 runs in the final over, helping LSG post a competitive 205/7 in 20 overs.
SRH’s Ruthless Response Seals the Game
Abhishek Sharma’s Carnage in the PowerPlay
Sunrisers began their chase with intent. Though they lost Atharva Taide early, Abhishek Sharma launched a brutal attack, racing to his fifty in just 16 balls. He hammered 4 sixes off Ravi Bishnoi in a single over and finished with 59 off 20 deliveries, setting the tone for the chase.
LSG bowlers were left clueless as Abhishek found boundaries at will, especially off Akash Deep and Bishnoi. His blitzkrieg helped SRH post 72/1 in the first six overs, almost matching LSG’s start.
Klaasen and Kamindu Guide SRH in Middle and Death Overs
Heinrich Klaasen and Kamindu Mendis took over seamlessly once Abhishek departed. Klaasen, with his signature aggressive strokeplay, hit crucial boundaries to maintain momentum. Kamindu Mendis added timely support as the pair stitched a 55-run partnership.
Although Klaasen fell for 47, the equation was well in SRH’s control. Even Kamindu’s injury-enforced retirement couldn’t disrupt the chase. Aniket and Nitish Reddy struck final blows as SRH reached 206/4 in just 18.2 overs, clinching the match and ending LSG’s IPL 2025 campaign.
Match Summary
Lucknow Super Giants: 205/7 in 20 overs (Mitchell Marsh 65, Aiden Markram 61; Eshan Malinga 2/28, Nitish Reddy 1/28)

What This Means for the Playoff Picture
