Shakib Al Hasan’s Availability for Kanpur Test Under Medical Observation
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will assess Shakib Al Hasan’s availability for the upcoming Kanpur Test against India after his medical evaluation. Shakib sustained a finger injury during the first Test in Chennai after being struck by a delivery from India’s Jasprit Bumrah. Despite receiving immediate treatment, Shakib’s participation in the second Test remains uncertain.
Shakib Al Hasan’s Injury Being Monitored
BCB officials have stated that no immediate decision will be made regarding Shakib’s involvement in the Kanpur Test. Hannan Sarkar, a member of BCB’s selection committee, shared the update during a media briefing on Monday in Chennai. He mentioned that the team will be traveling to Kanpur on Tuesday and will have two training sessions before making a final call on Shakib’s fitness.
“Today (Monday) is a rest day for the team, and we will make an assessment after our practice sessions. We are not rushing into a decision regarding Shakib’s availability for the second Test. Our medical team is keeping him under observation,” Sarkar said.
Fitness Evaluation and Future Decision on Shakib
Sarkar emphasized that the physio’s evaluation of Shakib’s condition will play a crucial role in the decision. He noted that they are awaiting feedback from the medical team and want to ensure Shakib is fully fit before fielding him in the Kanpur Test.
“For the past two days, our physio has been monitoring Shakib’s progress. We will get a better idea of his condition once we return to practice. There is still time before the second Test begins, and we will make a decision based on the physio’s report,” Sarkar explained.
Shakib Al Hasan’s Bowling Role and Pre-Match Fitness
Najmul Hossain, the Bangladesh captain, clarified that Shakib was not used as a bowler in the first Test because the other bowlers were performing well. Despite the concerns surrounding Shakib’s fitness, Hannan Sarkar reiterated that Shakib had been declared fully fit before the first Test by the team’s medical staff.
“We received a full clearance from the physio regarding Shakib’s fitness before the first Test. The discomfort he is experiencing in his finger developed during the game, not before,” Sarkar said.
Bangladesh will now focus on ensuring Shakib’s complete recovery before deciding on his role in the Kanpur Test, as they aim to maintain the momentum built during the ongoing series.
