Former Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed Set for Pakistan Comeback in WCL Season 2
Sarfaraz Ahmed Joins Pakistan Champions for WCL Season 2
Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is set to return to competitive cricket, having officially signed with the Pakistan Champions for the second season of the World Championship of Legends (WCL). This marks a highly anticipated comeback for the wicketkeeper-batter, who has been absent from the national squad since 2023.
The WCL, which debuted successfully in its first season, is set for a grand return, beginning on July 18, 2025. The previous edition saw India Champions emerge victorious in a thrilling final against Pakistan Champions. Ahead of the upcoming season, Pakistan Champions have made a strategic move by bringing in Sarfaraz, known for his leadership and match-winning abilities.
Sarfaraz Ahmed Strengthens Pakistan Champions’ Squad
A Leader Returns to the Field
Sarfaraz Ahmed, who famously led Pakistan to their historic 2017 Champions Trophy victory over India, is now ready to bring his experience and skills to the Pakistan Champions in the WCL. The team management announced his inclusion through an official social media post, accompanied by a video highlighting his leadership credentials with the tagline “CAPTAIN. LEADER. LEGEND.”
His return is expected to provide a significant boost to Pakistan Champions, who will benefit from his vast experience in pressure situations. Sarfaraz’s leadership credentials extend beyond the Champions Trophy triumph, as he also guided Pakistan through 11 consecutive T20I series victories, defeating top cricketing nations like Australia, New Zealand, and England.
Basit Ali Advocates for Sarfaraz as Pakistan’s Mentor
Calls for a National Team Role
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has suggested that Sarfaraz Ahmed should be appointed as a mentor for the national team ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Ali emphasized Sarfaraz’s past contributions and his ability to inspire young players, stating that Pakistan’s success in the 2017 Champions Trophy was largely due to Sarfaraz’s leadership.
Pakistan is currently lagging behind in their preparations for the 2025 Champions Trophy and has yet to finalize their squad for the tournament, even though the deadline has already passed. This situation raises concerns, and appointing an experienced figure like Sarfaraz as a mentor could prove beneficial.
Pakistan Champions Eye WCL Glory
With Sarfaraz Ahmed joining the squad, Pakistan Champions are setting their sights on redemption in WCL Season 2. The team aims to go one step further this time, following their runner-up finish in the inaugural season.
