San Francisco Unicorns Thrash MI New York to Extend Unbeaten Streak in MLC 2025

Matthew Short, Fraser-McGurk Lead SFU to Fifth Consecutive Victory
Dallas, June 24 – The San Francisco Unicorns (SFU) continued their dominant run in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, registering their fifth straight win with a commanding 47-run victory over the struggling MI New York (MINY). Riding on a blistering 91 from Matthew Short and a quickfire 64 by Jake Fraser-McGurk, the Unicorns posted a mammoth total of 246/4. In reply, MINY faltered in the latter stages of the chase and managed only 199/6, falling short of their target.
The win reinforces SFU’s position at the top of the points table and underscores their status as one of the most balanced and explosive teams in the current MLC season.
Power-Packed SFU Batting Crushes MINY Bowlers
Short and Fraser-McGurk Set the Tone Early
With regular opener Finn Allen out due to illness, Tim Seifert joined captain Matthew Short at the top of the order. The duo made full use of the batting-friendly surface in Dallas, racing to 63/0 in the Powerplay. After Seifert fell, Fraser-McGurk took over the aggression mantle and partnered with Short for a scintillating second-wicket stand.
Together, they punished MI New York’s bowlers with clean, aggressive hitting. A standout moment came when Michael Bracewell was taken for 26 runs in a single over, exposing MINY’s inability to control the scoring. Short’s sublime 91 came off just 43 balls, filled with boundaries and sixes predominantly toward the shorter side of the ground.
Late cameos from Sanjay Krishnamurthi (27 off 16)* and Hassan Khan (31 off 9)* added the finishing touches as SFU smashed 38 runs off the final two overs to set a daunting total of 246.
MI New York Falter Despite Strong Opening Stand
De Kock and Monank Provide Hope Before Collapse
Chasing 247, MI New York started confidently with a robust 119-run opening partnership between Quinton de Kock and Monank Patel. Monank blazed away to a 25-ball half-century while De Kock followed suit, reaching 50 off just 30 deliveries.
The momentum shifted when Liam Plunkett dismissed Monank and Haris Rauf delivered a wide yorker that controversially saw Nicholas Pooran depart. The middle order failed to capitalize on the strong start, and wickets began to tumble.
Bowling heroes Romario Shepherd (2/30) and Xavier Bartlett (2/35) struck in crucial moments to stall MINY’s momentum. Despite a few meaty blows from Kieron Pollard, the asking rate spiraled out of reach. MI New York eventually closed at 199/6, slumping to their fourth loss in five games.
What’s Next in MLC 2025?
With this win, San Francisco Unicorns have now won all five of their games and are strong contenders for a playoff spot. On the other hand, defending champions MI New York are under severe pressure, having lost four of their first five matches.
