Sam Curran and Jordan Cox Power Oval Invincibles to Dominant Win Over Southern Brave

Cox’s Dream Run Continues With Another Half-Century

Jordan Cox is quickly becoming the standout performer of The Hundred 2025, as he notched up his second successive half-century to guide Oval Invincibles to yet another victory. His composed yet aggressive knock, supported by Sam Curran’s all-round brilliance, ensured the Invincibles cruised past Southern Brave by 7 wickets in a commanding display on Monday (August 18).

Cox’s innings was his third consecutive impactful knock, following scores of 44 and an unbeaten 86*. His explosive batting against some of the tournament’s best bowlers has propelled the Invincibles to the top of the points table, winning four out of their five matches so far.

Rashid Khan and Sam Curran Star With the Ball

Early Damage by Behrendorff Sets the Tone

The Southern Brave were put into bat and faced immediate setbacks as Australian quick Jason Behrendorff removed captain James Vince and Leus du Plooy early. Tom Curran added further misery by dismissing Laurie Evans, leaving the Brave reeling on a pitch that was far from ideal for batting.

Rashid Khan’s Stunning Comeback

After a couple of quiet outings, Rashid Khan returned to form in spectacular style. The Afghan leg-spinner turned the game on its head by taking three wickets in the space of just five deliveries. He dismissed Jason Roy and Michael Bracewell with back-to-back deliveries before trapping James Coles LBW, reducing the Brave to 44/6 in a shocking collapse.

Despite their struggles, Southern Brave showed resilience as Hilton Cartwright (42) and Jordan Thompson built crucial lower-order partnerships, helping their side reach a respectable 133. However, their hopes of posting a defendable total were dashed as Sam Curran picked up two more wickets late in the innings, finishing with excellent figures of 3/21.

Clinical Batting Seals the Chase

Cox and Curran Lead the Charge

Chasing 134, Oval Invincibles suffered a minor wobble as Craig Overton removed both openers—Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye—early. But the experienced Sam Curran and the in-form Jordan Cox steadied the ship with a dominant partnership.

Cox took the attack to Tymal Mills with a sequence of boundaries and a six, bringing up his fifty in style. Curran, at the other end, showcased his range of strokes by taking on both seamers and spinners with ease. Their partnership effectively sealed the game, even before Cox was dismissed for 56.

Finishing Touches From the Middle Order

With the result already in sight, captain Sam Billings added a quick-fire cameo before Curran fittingly finished the chase in style. Curran’s unbeaten 50 not only ensured victory with 11 balls to spare but also highlighted his invaluable all-round contribution.

Invincibles Lead the Table

This resounding win cements the Oval Invincibles’ position at the top of the standings. With Cox in sublime form, Curran delivering as both batter and bowler, and Rashid Khan regaining rhythm, the side looks well-balanced and poised to dominate the rest of the tournament.

📊 Brief Scores:

  • Southern Brave: 133 in 98 balls (Hilton Cartwright 42; Rashid Khan 3/20, Sam Curran 3/21)

  • Oval Invincibles: 134/3 in 89 balls (Jordan Cox 56, Sam Curran 50*; Craig Overton 2/21)
