Salahuddin Backs Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Emon for Breakthrough in Bangladesh’s Top Order

Bangladesh assistant head coach Mohammad Salahuddin has tipped young openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Emon to make a significant impact in the national setup, drawing on their winning experience from the ICC U-19 World Cup. As Bangladesh prepares for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the Netherlands — a key build-up to the Asia Cup — the focus is on this promising left-handed duo who could redefine the team’s approach at the top of the order.
Rising Stars Ready to Step Up
Salahuddin believes Tanzid and Emon’s shared cricketing journey since their Under-19 days gives them a unique edge in building a solid opening partnership for Bangladesh. The pair played a vital role in Bangladesh’s historic U-19 World Cup triumph — still the nation’s only global cricket trophy.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Salahuddin emphasized their mental growth and mutual understanding:
“They can play fearless cricket, they can play shots. The courage and shot selection needed at the Under-19 level is still present in them… Their understanding of the game is increasing and visible.”
Both players are now seen as settled in white-ball formats, showing intent to give Bangladesh explosive starts. According to Salahuddin, their aggressive mindset and on-field chemistry could become a long-term asset.

Building Stability in Bangladesh’s Batting Order
Importance of a Solid Opening Partnership
Salahuddin stressed that a dependable opening stand is essential for Bangladesh’s success in limited-overs cricket. While Test cricket has found stability with Shadman Islam’s improved form, and T20Is are reaching a settled state, the ODI side still struggles with consistency — particularly in the middle order.
“In ODIs and T20Is, if the openers are set, it gives a big boost. Instead of changing everything, we need small adjustments for team improvement,” he noted.
The ODI Middle-Order Conundrum
Bangladesh’s ODI strength has historically come from experienced middle-order players like Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah. With their gradual exit from these roles, finding stable replacements for positions four, five, and six has become a challenge.
Salahuddin highlighted the adaptability required for ODI batting:
“One-day cricket demands quick role changes depending on the match situation — that’s where experience is key. Our current players don’t regularly bat in these positions in domestic cricket, so it’s a learning curve.”
The coaching staff is now focused on role clarity and situation awareness, similar to what the Test and T20I sides already have.

Training and Series Preparations
The Bangladesh team will begin skill training at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on August 15 after their fitness camp. They are set to move to Sylhet ahead of the T20I series starting August 30 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Salahuddin remains optimistic that once the young openers grow into their roles and the middle order gains stability, Bangladesh will have three well-balanced formats with clearly defined responsibilities.
