In a noteworthy update, the BCCI announced on Thursday (July 18) the recall of Shreyas Iyer to the 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. Iyer, the captain of KKR, has been reinstated under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir, who is set to start his tenure as India’s new head coach.
Additionally, the squad will include stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Rohit Sharma will lead the team as captain, with Shubman Gill appointed as his vice-captain. KL Rahul also makes a return to the squad, while Rishabh Pant retains his position as well.
Jadeja Left Out; Dube Included in Place of Hardik Pandya
Shivam Dube has been included in the squad, specifically to fill the gap left by Hardik Pandya, who is taking a break from the 50-over format. Additionally, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, and Khaleel Ahmed have secured spots in the team. These players delivered strong performances under Shubman Gill during the recent T20I series against Zimbabwe.
However, Ravindra Jadeja has not been selected for this series.
Among the bowlers, Harshit Rana, who has emerged as a promising talent for KKR in the IPL 2024 season, has also been included in the squad. He will join the pace attack spearheaded by Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj. Meanwhile, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will lead the spin department.
