Pathum Nissanka Makes Comeback as Sri Lanka Unveils Squad for ENG Test Series
The Sri Lankan selection committee has announced an 18-member squad for their upcoming three-match Test series against England. Dhananjaya De Silva will remain the captain of the Test team, with Kusal Mendis serving as his vice-captain. Notably, Pathum Nissanka, who has excelled in white-ball cricket, has been recalled to the squad.
The team is a mix of seasoned players and emerging talents. Experienced batters such as Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews, and Dinesh Chandimal continue to showcase their skills, while young talents Nishan Madushka and Sadeera Samarawickrama bring fresh energy to the lineup. The squad also features versatile spin-bowling all-rounders Kamindu Mendis and Ramesh Mendis.
On the bowling side, Nisala Tharaka, who is yet to make his debut but has been impressive in domestic cricket, joins the squad. Experienced fast bowlers Lahiru Kumara and Kasun Rajitha are also included. Additionally, Asitha Fernando and Vishwa Fernando are expected to play pivotal roles in the English conditions, with Prabath Jayasuriya and Jeffrey Vandersay leading the spin attack.
The first Test match is set to begin on August 21 at Old Trafford, with the second and third Tests scheduled to take place at Lord’s and the Kia Oval, respectively.
