Nurul Hasan Returns as Bangladesh Announce Preliminary Squad for Asia Cup and Netherlands Series
BCB Names 25-Member Squad Ahead of Busy August-September Schedule
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unveiled a 25-member preliminary squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 and a three-match T20I series against the Netherlands, scheduled for late August and early September. The selection has caught attention with the surprising return of wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan, who was previously out of favor with selectors.
Nurul Hasan Recalled; Mossadek Hossain Misses Out
Despite being consistent performers in Bangladesh’s domestic competitions, both Nurul Hasan and Mossadek Hossain had been overlooked in recent national selections. However, Nurul has now earned a spot in the preliminary squad, signaling a potential comeback to international cricket.
Unfortunately for Mossadek, the selectors have once again decided to sideline him. Not only was he left out of the Asia Cup preliminary squad, but he also missed selection for the Bangladesh A team tour to Australia. This omission has raised eyebrows given his recent domestic performances and experience in the shorter formats.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz Retained Despite Dip in T20 Form
All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who has been struggling in T20Is recently, has managed to retain his spot in the squad. His performances during Bangladesh’s T20I tour of Sri Lanka and the home-and-away series against Pakistan were far from impressive, but the selectors have opted to give him another opportunity to prove his worth in the lead-up to the Asia Cup.
Five Players Set to Miss Camp Due to Australia Tour
A portion of the selected squad, including Nurul Hasan, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan, Saif Hassan, Hasan Mahmud, and Naim Sheikh, will be unavailable for the initial phases of the preparatory camp. These players are scheduled to travel to Australia on August 9 for the T20 Series 2025 in Darwin, representing Bangladesh A.
Following the T20 series, the Bangladesh A team is also scheduled to play a four-day red-ball match against South Australia, part of their development and exposure strategy. This will be Bangladesh’s second appearance in the Darwin-based tournament, having debuted in 2024.

Training Camp Schedule and Netherlands Series Details
The remaining players will begin a fitness camp at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur on August 6. Skill training will commence on August 15, also at SBNCS, before the entire camp moves to Sylhet on August 20 to continue preparations.
The Netherlands T20I squad is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on August 26. The three-match T20I series will be held exclusively in Sylhet on the following dates:

The Dutch team is set to depart Bangladesh on September 4, shortly after the final match.
