Mushfiqur Rahim to Miss West Indies Test Series Due to Injury
Bangladesh’s experienced batter, Mushfiqur Rahim, has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, which will commence on November 22. The decision was confirmed by a member of the national selection panel, who shared that Mushfiqur, now 37, could potentially join the ODI series if his recovery progresses as expected.
Injury Details and Recovery Timeline
Mushfiqur sustained a fracture on the tip of his left index finger while keeping wickets during Bangladesh’s opening ODI against Afghanistan in Sharjah. His injury forced him out of the ongoing three-match ODI series, as medical evaluations indicated a recovery time of four to six weeks. Consequently, the injury will prevent him from participating in the Test series against the West Indies. “He (Mushfiqur) won’t be available for the Test matches, as his recovery is projected to take a month or longer,” explained the selector.
Future Participation in ODIs
The veteran batter, who typically bats at number four or five, had attempted to play at a lower batting position during the match against Afghanistan but ultimately had to exit the series due to his injury. He is expected to return to Bangladesh soon to focus on rehabilitation. However, the selectors remain optimistic about his participation in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, depending on his recovery. The official noted, “As for the ODIs, we will assess his progress closer to the series and make a decision accordingly.”
Replacement Plans and Litton Das Update
While Mushfiqur’s absence impacts the Test lineup, the team management has yet to announce any replacement for him in the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Litton Das, another key player, is expected to travel to Dubai this week, but rumors about him replacing Mushfiqur in the ODI squad were dismissed by the selectors. The official clarified, “Litton is traveling for personal reasons and will later join the team when they depart for the West Indies. He has also not fully recovered from his recent illness.”
Following the Test series, Bangladesh’s tour of the West Indies will include three ODIs and three T20Is. Mushfiqur, who retired from T20 internationals, is anticipated to be available for the ODI segment, given he recovers on time.
