Mumbai Indians Crush Rajasthan Royals by 100 Runs to Top IPL 2025 Table

Mumbai Display Batting Masterclass and Ruthless Bowling to Humble Rajasthan in Jaipur

Mumbai Indians delivered one of the most dominant performances of IPL 2025, defeating Rajasthan Royals by a massive margin of 100 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. With this victory, MI surged to the top of the points table, making a powerful statement heading into the final phase of the league stage. Rajasthan, meanwhile, were officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Their massive total of 217/2 marked the 17th time Mumbai have crossed the 200-run mark when batting first in the IPL—and they’ve successfully defended it on all 17 occasions.

PowerPlay Battle: MI Survive, RR Collapse

Mumbai Indians: A Measured Start Followed by Controlled Aggression

MI’s openers, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, faced a tricky opening spell from Jofra Archer and Fazalhaq Farooqi, scoring only 16 runs in the first three overs. However, a momentum shift came in the fourth over when Rickelton executed a wristy flick for six over deep square leg. Rohit joined the party with a sensational cut shot between backward point and third man off a 147 kmph delivery from Archer.

By the end of the PowerPlay, MI had raced to 58 without loss, with both openers showing a perfect balance of caution and aggression.

Rajasthan Royals: Top-Order Meltdown

In stark contrast, Rajasthan Royals suffered a disastrous PowerPlay. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed on the second ball, miscuing a shot straight to mid-on. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Rana, and Riyan Parag all fell trying to force the pace. Bumrah’s double-strike in the sixth over—removing Parag and Shimron Hetmyer—left RR reeling at 62/5 after six overs, becoming the first team this season to lose five wickets in the PowerPlay.

Middle Overs: MI Dominate, RR Spiral

Mumbai Continue to Accelerate

Despite the dismissals of Rickelton (61) and Rohit (53), Mumbai Indians continued their charge. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya came in with intent and maintained a run-rate close to 10 per over. Both batsmen rotated the strike well and punished any loose deliveries. Farooqi’s return in the 14th over was particularly costly, conceding three boundaries.

MI reached 146/2 at the end of the 15th over, setting the stage for a ferocious finish.

Rajasthan Royals Lose Grip Completely

With the required run-rate mounting, RR’s middle order collapsed under pressure. Hardik Pandya removed impact substitute Shubham Dubey in the 8th over. Karn Sharma, MI’s own impact player, took three wickets including the key scalps of Dhruv Jurel and Maheesh Theekshana, reducing RR to 91/9.

The only flicker of resistance came from Jofra Archer, whose quickfire 30 helped RR cross the 100-run mark, but it was far too little, far too late.

Death Overs: MI Finish with a Flourish

Suryakumar and Hardik turned up the intensity in the final five overs, scoring at an astonishing rate of 14.20 runs per over. Hardik struck clean fours and sixes while Suryakumar showed innovation with audacious ramps and pulls.

In the 18th over, Farooqi was hammered for 21 runs as Hardik exploded with boundaries all around the ground. Despite tight final overs from Archer and Madhwal, MI finished strongly, ending their innings at 217/2. Both Suryakumar and Hardik remained unbeaten on 48 off 23 balls.

Rajasthan’s Chase Ends in Ruins

Rajasthan’s reply was never in contention. After the early collapse, they limped through the middle overs and were bowled out for just 117 in 16.1 overs. Archer’s 30 was the highest score in their innings, while Bumrah, Karn, and Boult shared wickets in a clinical performance.

This crushing defeat not only eliminated RR from the playoffs but also exposed their lack of depth and composure under pressure.

What’s Next for the Two Teams?

Mumbai Indians will return home to host Gujarat Titans on May 6, in what could be a crucial fixture in the race for the top two. Rajasthan Royals, already out of the playoff race, will face Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on May 4, hoping to salvage pride.
