Mumbai Indians Dominate Again with Back-to-Back Wins in IPL 2025

Mumbai Continue Resurgence with Commanding Win Over SRH

Mumbai Indians (MI) registered another emphatic victory in IPL 2025, showcasing a complete team effort with bat and ball against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The four-wicket win at the Wankhede Stadium marked their second consecutive triumph and further dented SRH’s quest for an away win this season.

SRH, who were the runners-up in IPL 2024, struggled on a tricky surface that offered assistance to slower deliveries. Their wait for an away win continues as MI capitalized on home conditions to outplay their opponents in all departments.

Where the Match Slipped Away for SRH

The Middle Overs Made the Difference

The turning point of the match came in the middle overs, where MI asserted dominance with both bat and ball. The contrast in scoring during this phase highlighted MI’s strategic mastery.

Parameter SRH MI
Score 59/3 82/3
Run Rate 6.55 9.11
4s/6s 5/0 8/4

MI’s disciplined bowling restricted SRH’s scoring during the middle overs, while their batters counterattacked effectively to create a significant gap in the contest.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Struggles Continue Despite Klaasen’s Late Burst

Powerplay: MI Contain SRH’s Explosive Opening Duo

SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma—collectively known as “Travishek”—were kept relatively quiet in the powerplay. Despite escaping a couple of dropped chances, they managed only 46 runs in the first six overs without losing a wicket, the lowest powerplay score for SRH without a dismissal since 2024.

Middle Overs: MI’s Spinners Take Control

The momentum shifted further in MI’s favor post powerplay. Hardik Pandya made a return from a minor injury scare to dismiss Abhishek Sharma for 40. Will Jacks then chipped in with crucial scalps, including that of the dangerous Travis Head. The sticky Wankhede surface played a crucial role, aiding spinners and slower deliveries.

Death Overs: Klaasen Fights Back Briefly

Heinrich Klaasen injected some late momentum into SRH’s innings, smashing 21 runs off one Deepak Chahar over. Despite Jasprit Bumrah’s clinical bowling in the penultimate over, SRH crossed the 160-run mark thanks to late sixes by Aniket Verma and Pat Cummins.

Mumbai Indians: Balanced Batting Seals the Deal

Powerplay: Rohit Sharma Fires Early

Rohit Sharma finally found form this season, racing to 25 off just 13 balls with a mix of power and placement. Although he departed soon after, his start laid a strong foundation for the chase. Ryan Rickelton then took over, punishing Eshan Malinga with a hat-trick of boundaries to close out the powerplay at 55/1.

Middle Overs: Jacks and SKY Shift into Top Gear

Will Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav turned the screws during the middle phase. They unleashed a flurry of boundaries, particularly targeting Zeeshan Ansari and Rahul Chahar. MI’s aggressive approach during this phase completely nullified SRH’s bowling efforts. Though Pat Cummins returned to pick two quick wickets, the damage had already been done.

Death Overs: Hardik Finishes with a Flourish

Hardik Pandya ensured no late drama would spoil the chase. Smashing two quick boundaries followed by a six and four off Harshal Patel, he brought the equation down to a single run. Though he fell attempting a glory shot, Tilak Varma sealed the win in the 19th over with a classy reverse sweep.
