The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has officially appointed former Indian cricketing legends Dilip Vengsarkar and Diana Edulji as cricket advisors. The announcement was made following the Apex Council meeting held on Monday, June 9, 2025. The move is seen as a significant step toward enhancing Mumbai’s cricketing infrastructure and fostering young talent from the grassroots level.
According to MCA, “Their wealth of experience and deep understanding of the game will provide invaluable guidance to cricketing operations and development programmes.”
Dilip Vengsarkar: A Veteran Returns to Guide the Next Generation
Dilip Vengsarkar, aged 69, is a former Indian cricket captain and ex-chief selector. His earlier role as Vice-President of the MCA and his key contributions to Indian cricket—particularly in identifying future stars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma—highlight the immense value he brings to the table.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik stated, “Dilip Sir’s involvement with the Mumbai Cricket Association will play a key role in strengthening our grassroots cricket structure.”
Vengsarkar’s return is expected to accelerate the development of young cricketers and improve the quality of coaching and training modules across age groups.
Diana Edulji: Pioneer in Women’s Cricket and Administrative Excellence
Diana Edulji, also 69, is a former captain of the Indian women’s cricket team. Beyond her cricketing career, she served on the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) that oversaw the functioning of the BCCI from 2017 to 2019.
Her strong voice for women’s cricket and administrative integrity make her a valuable addition to MCA’s advisory board. Ajinkya Naik commented, “Diana Madam’s outstanding contribution to Mumbai cricket remains a constant source of inspiration.”
Her presence is expected to encourage inclusivity, especially in promoting women’s cricket at the domestic level.
Reappointment of the Cricket Improvement Committee
In the same Apex Council meeting, MCA also decided to reappoint the existing members of the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC), ensuring continuity and consistency in developmental efforts.
