Kamran Akmal Slams PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Urges Resignation Amid Pakistan’s Ongoing Cricket Crisis

Pakistan’s Cricketing Woes Continue After ODI Series Loss to New Zealand

Pakistan’s recent defeat in the ODI series against New Zealand has sparked outrage across the cricketing community, with former cricketer Kamran Akmal calling for drastic changes at the top. Despite gaining an early 2-0 lead, Pakistan failed to seal the series and ended up losing the final match by a massive margin of 84 runs. The series defeat, coupled with earlier failures in the T20Is and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, marks a steep decline in the performance of the national team.

Kamran Akmal’s Bold Statement: “Resign and Leave”

In a scathing review on his YouTube channel, Kamran Akmal questioned Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s ability to manage the team. According to him, if the chairman is unable to fix the ongoing issues, he should step down to protect his own reputation and that of the organization.

“It’s embarrassing. If the PCB chairman can’t handle the situation, he must resign. Don’t wait till Pakistan cricket hits rock bottom,” Kamran said.

This blistering attack on the PCB leadership has gained traction on social media, with many fans echoing Kamran’s sentiments.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025: A Tournament to Forget

Winless Campaign Sparks Major Concerns

Pakistan’s journey in the Champions Trophy 2025 was nothing short of a disaster. The team failed to win a single match in the tournament, resulting in an early exit. This lackluster performance served as a warning sign that was ignored ahead of the bilateral series with New Zealand.

Bowling Inconsistencies Highlighted by Kamran

Kamran didn’t mince words when speaking about Pakistan’s bowling department. He criticized the lack of consistency in line and length and raised questions about the effectiveness of the current attack.

“When our bowlers can’t perform on bowler-friendly pitches, how can we expect them to deliver in subcontinent conditions? This shows a need for fresh blood in our bowling attack,” he noted.

He further added that playing against top-tier teams with such an undisciplined bowling unit makes Pakistan vulnerable in every match.

Batting Collapse and Over-Reliance on Tail-Enders

In the final ODI, Pakistan’s top order crumbled, with half the side back in the pavilion by the 21st over at a paltry 65/6. However, Faheem Ashraf (73 off 80) and Naseem Shah (51 off 44) staged a late fightback, pushing the total to 208.

Kamran, however, stressed that bowlers like Naseem Shah should not be burdened with batting responsibilities.

“It’s good that Naseem scored, but his job is to take wickets, not rescue the innings. Our batsmen need to step up with a proper strategy. Once Babar was dismissed, the rest followed like a pack of cards,” Kamran remarked.

What Lies Ahead for Pakistan Cricket?

Pakistan now gears up for the third and final ODI against New Zealand on Saturday, April 5, at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. With the series levelled and morale low, the pressure is mounting on the players, coaches, and especially the PCB leadership to turn things around.
