Jasprit Bumrah Returns to NCA: Mumbai Indians Await Injury Update for IPL 2025

Bumrah Back at NCA Amid Hope for Quick IPL 2025 Return
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s premier fast bowler and a key asset for the Mumbai Indians, has once again returned to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. His latest visit comes as he seeks clearance to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. While his availability for the tournament remains uncertain, there is growing optimism about his recovery.
Bumrah’s Second NCA Visit: A Positive Sign?
Bumrah previously visited the NCA more than a week ago, during which he experienced discomfort while bowling. Following an assessment, NCA officials recommended specific rehabilitation exercises and advised him to return at a later date. Now, with his second visit in quick succession, hopes have risen regarding his fitness status.
Mumbai Indians Await Clearance
If Bumrah manages to bowl without experiencing pain or discomfort, he could receive clearance to feature in the IPL. However, experts believe he may need another week to be deemed match-fit. As a result, he is likely to miss Mumbai Indians’ first two matches of the season.
Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene provided an update on Bumrah’s recovery, stating:
“He just started that progress. We have to wait and see what their feedback is on him. At the moment, everything is going well, but obviously, it is on a day-to-day basis. He is in good spirits, and hopefully, he can join the team sooner.”
Jayawardene acknowledged the challenge of not having Bumrah in the squad, emphasizing his role as one of the best bowlers in the world and a crucial figure in MI’s bowling attack.
Sanju Samson Also Undergoing Fitness Assessment
While Bumrah’s return remains a talking point, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is also undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. Following surgery on his right index finger, Samson has received partial clearance, allowing him to bat but not yet keep wickets.
Rajasthan Royals’ Contingency Plan
To manage Samson’s recovery, Rajasthan Royals have taken a strategic decision to utilize him solely as an impact player for the initial phase of IPL 2025. The franchise has temporarily handed over captaincy duties to Riyan Parag.

Samson is expected to reassess his fitness with NCA officials after three matches to determine if he can resume wicketkeeping. The Royals remain hopeful for his full recovery before the crucial middle phase of the tournament.
What This Means for IPL 2025
With two high-profile players—Bumrah and Samson—undergoing fitness tests, their availability will significantly impact Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, respectively. While MI may have to start their campaign without their pace spearhead, RR has already adapted its strategy by adjusting the captaincy role.
