Ishant Sharma Penalized for Code of Conduct Breach During IPL 2025 Clash Against SRH

Gujarat Titans Pacer Fined 25% Match Fee and Slapped with One Demerit Point
Veteran Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma, currently representing Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 season, has found himself in disciplinary trouble. The seasoned pacer has been fined 25% of his match fee and handed one demerit point by the IPL governing council for breaching the tournament’s Code of Conduct during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 6, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, during match number 19 of the season.
Breach of Article 2.2: Damage to Property or Equipment
What Led to Ishant Sharma’s Fine?
As per an official statement released on the IPL’s official website, Ishant was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This specific clause addresses actions involving damage to cricket equipment or property, including the stumps, advertising boards, or dressing room furnishings.
Such infractions are usually a result of frustration-driven behavior like kicking equipment, smashing items in anger, or swinging the bat recklessly and causing damage. While the statement did not provide exact details of the incident, the governing body made it clear that Ishant’s behavior breached acceptable conduct on the field.

Tough Day on the Field for Ishant Sharma
The disciplinary setback compounded what was already a rough outing for the senior bowler. Ishant had a forgettable day with the ball, leaking 53 runs in his 4-over spell without taking any wickets. His economy rate and overall impact were far from the standards expected from a player of his experience.
Despite his poor individual performance, Gujarat Titans went on to secure a 7-wicket victory over the hosts, Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Match Summary: GT Continue Winning Streak
While Ishant struggled, his teammates ensured a positive outcome for the franchise. Mohammed Siraj starred with the ball, picking up 4 wickets for just 17 runs, which played a pivotal role in restricting SRH to 152/8.
During the chase, Shubman Gill led the way with an unbeaten 61-run knock, well supported by Washington Sundar, who chipped in with a quickfire 49 runs. The Titans chased down the target in just 16.4 overs, recording their third consecutive win of the IPL 2025 season.
IPL Code of Conduct: Zero Tolerance for On-Field Misconduct
The Indian Premier League has long maintained strict policies on player behavior, with the Code of Conduct outlining clear penalties for any breaches. Article 2.2 specifically pertains to acts of aggression or damage, reinforcing the league’s commitment to upholding the spirit of the game.
Even seasoned cricketers are not exempt from consequences, as seen in Ishant’s case. The addition of a demerit point to his record will serve as a warning, as repeat violations can lead to match suspensions or heavier penalties.
