Harry Brook to Lead England in ODI Series Against Australia
Harry Brook has been appointed as England’s captain for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against Australia, marking the first time he will lead the team in his career. This decision comes in light of Jos Buttler’s absence from the five-match series due to a calf injury.
Jos Buttler’s Injury Opens Door for Brook
Jos Buttler, who has also been sidelined from the T20I squad, continues his recovery from the calf injury he sustained earlier in the season. His absence from the ODI series has paved the way for Harry Brook to step into the leadership role. Buttler’s injury has led to the inclusion of Liam Livingstone in the ODI squad. Livingstone, who had been left out earlier, has made a strong case for his recall with impressive performances in the ongoing T20I series, including a quick-fire 87 off 47 balls in the second T20I.
Brook’s Leadership Experience and Squad Changes
Harry Brook, previously a deputy to Ollie Pope in the Test series against Sri Lanka during Ben Stokes’ absence, is now set to lead England for the first time in ODIs. Brook’s experience includes captaining England in the Under-19 World Cup in 2018. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has also announced that young pacer Josh Hull, who made his international debut in the final Test against Sri Lanka, will not feature in the ODI series due to a quad injury.
The ODI series against Australia will begin on September 19 at Trent Bridge.
