Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings Announce Key Replacement Signings for IPL 2025

Dasun Shanaka Joins Gujarat Titans as Glenn Phillips’ Replacement
Gujarat Titans have officially signed Sri Lanka’s seasoned all-rounder Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for Glenn Phillips, who has been ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2025 due to a groin injury. Shanaka’s inclusion brings a wealth of international experience to the Titans’ squad as they look to strengthen their middle order and all-round options.
Glenn Phillips’ Unfortunate Exit
Phillips, a key overseas acquisition for GT at a base price of INR 2 Crore, was unable to play a single game this season before sustaining a groin injury. With his exit, the franchise was quick to act, bringing in Shanaka, who had previously been part of their squad in IPL 2023, albeit featuring in only three matches.
The 32-year-old Shanaka, who has represented Sri Lanka in over 100 T20Is, will join Gujarat Titans at his base price of INR 75 Lakh. His experience and versatility offer a promising boost for GT’s ambitions in the second half of the season.

CSK Rope in Dewald Brevis to Replace Injured Gurjapneet Singh
On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings have secured a major signing by onboarding South African sensation Dewald Brevis as a replacement for injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh. The five-time IPL champions seized the opportunity with an open overseas slot and made the move official.
Brevis: A High-Impact Addition
Although Brevis had a base price of INR 75 Lakh during the previous auction, CSK acquired him for a significant INR 2.2 Crore, indicating their confidence in his potential. The 21-year-old, often dubbed as the next AB de Villiers, brings explosive batting and youthful energy to a struggling CSK unit currently languishing at the bottom of the table with just two wins at the halfway stage.
Brevis has already featured in 10 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians and continues to showcase his talent in global T20 leagues like MLC and SA20. In the recent SA20 season, he was among the top ten run scorers, boasting the highest strike rate of 184.17. His recent domestic form for Titans, especially in List A and first-class matches, further justifies CSK’s interest in him.

“We believe Brevis brings the kind of aggressive flair our squad needs at this stage,” said a CSK official.
CSK’s Second Replacement Signing This Season
This is CSK’s second replacement deal of IPL 2025, following the signing of Mumbai-based prodigy Ayush Mhatre, who stepped in for regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad earlier in the season. CSK’s next big challenge awaits on April 20, when they face arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
