Georgia Wareham Stars in Northern Superchargers Women’s Dominant Win Over Welsh Fire

Clinical All-Round Display at Headingley

Northern Superchargers Women got their The Hundred 2025 campaign off to the perfect start with a commanding 47-run victory over Welsh Fire Women at Headingley. The win was built on a solid batting foundation, composed leadership, and a standout all-round performance from Georgia Wareham.

The Superchargers, playing in front of their home crowd, posted a strong total before delivering a disciplined bowling performance to seal the win.

Armitage Leads from the Front

Captain’s Knock Holds the Innings Together

Skipper Hollie Armitage played a captain’s innings, scoring an unbeaten 34 that anchored the batting effort. Her composure ensured that Northern Superchargers could build steadily before accelerating in the final overs.

Australia’s Annabel Sutherland contributed a crucial 28, playing smartly through the middle overs, while Georgia Wareham added an unbeaten 29. The Armitage-Wareham partnership in the closing stages proved decisive, as they took full advantage of scoring opportunities, pushing the total to a competitive 141/4 from their 100 balls.

Welsh Fire’s Struggles with the Bat

The chase began disastrously for Welsh Fire, with Sophia Dunkley and Hayley Matthews dismissed cheaply before the team could reach double figures. Matthews, who had earlier been the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-18, could not replicate her impact with the bat.

The early damage left Welsh Fire under immense pressure, and although skipper Tammy Beaumont fought back with a well-made 36, she found little support. Georgia Elwiss tried to stabilize the innings, but the disciplined bowling from the Superchargers ensured the required run rate kept climbing.

Wareham’s Impact with the Ball

Wareham wasn’t done after her batting heroics—she made key breakthroughs with the ball, finishing with figures of 2-14. Her ability to pick up wickets in the middle overs ensured Welsh Fire could not rebuild after their shaky start.

The rest of the Superchargers attack maintained relentless pressure, sharing wickets and keeping the scoring rate under control. Welsh Fire eventually folded for 94, falling well short of the target.

Brief Scores

Northern Superchargers Women: 141/4 in 100 balls (Hollie Armitage 34*, Annabel Sutherland 28, Georgia Wareham 29*; Hayley Matthews 2-18)
Welsh Fire Women: 94 all out (Tammy Beaumont 36; Georgia Wareham 2-14)
Result: Northern Superchargers Women won by 47 runs
