Ebadot Hossain Returns to Test Cricket After Two-Year Injury Layoff

Ebadot’s Long-Awaited Comeback
Bangladesh’s right-arm fast bowler Ebadot Hossain is set to make his much-anticipated return to international cricket during the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. His comeback marks the end of a challenging two-year injury hiatus following a severe ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury sustained in 2023.
The 30-year-old speedster, who underwent five surgeries on his knee, spoke candidly about his arduous recovery journey and mental battle during rehabilitation in an exclusive interview with Cricbuzz.
The Struggle: A Knee Injury That Took a Toll
Ebadot was sidelined during the 2023 home series against Afghanistan due to the injury, which later required extensive medical attention and multiple surgeries.
“It was not just a single surgery. I had five different operations on my knee,” Ebadot shared. “Usually, fast bowlers deal with meniscus or ACL issues, but my case was different.”
He described the rehabilitation process as “long and painful,” often leaving him mentally drained. Still, Ebadot never lost faith.
Mental Fortitude: Never Thought of Giving Up
Despite being out of action for 16 months, Ebadot maintained a fighter’s spirit.
“I’m not someone who gives up easily. I always believed I would return, no matter how long it took,” he said.
His determination and strong mindset were critical. Doctors informed him early on that recovery would take time, especially considering the extent of his surgery. But the pacer stayed committed to the process.
The Road to Recovery: Back on the Field via NCL and BPL
After months of physiotherapy and strength training, Ebadot finally resumed bowling and made his competitive return through the National Cricket League (NCL).
“Initially, there was fear. I felt my knee wasn’t strong enough,” Ebadot admitted. “But now, especially since playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), I feel confident again.”
He credited Australian trainer Nathan Kelly, who designed a rigorous strength program in India that helped him regain full rhythm and confidence.
Pressure or Motivation? Ebadot Thanks BCB for Support
Ebadot was quick to acknowledge the role of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in his comeback.
“The BCB stood by me from day one. They didn’t delay my treatment and sent me to London quickly for surgery,” he noted.
He revealed that then head coach Chandika Hathurusingha had wanted him in the Asia Cup 2023 squad, but the injury ruled him out.
Rather than feeling pressure, Ebadot sees BCB’s support as motivation to perform.
Test Series Against Sri Lanka
With his comeback coinciding with the Test series against Sri Lanka, all eyes will be on how Ebadot performs after such a long break. His pace, experience, and mental resolve will be vital as Bangladesh looks to make a strong statement at home.
