BCCI to Enforce Regulations on Foreign Players in IPL to Prevent Last-Minute Withdrawals
In a significant development, IPL franchises have urged the BCCI to address issues with certain foreign players who fail to honor their commitments by withdrawing from the tournament at the last minute. According to Cricbuzz, multiple franchises have voiced similar concerns, prompting the BCCI to consider taking the matter seriously.
“The withdrawal of players like Jason Roy, Alex Hales, and Wanindu Hasaranga from the IPL on multiple occasions—often due to receiving a low bid—has caused concern among the IPL management. The reasons provided, such as personal issues or injuries, have often been unconvincing, leaving the franchises dissatisfied,” according to a Cricbuzz report.
BCCI to Oversee Player Availability in IPL Auctions
The report further highlighted that many players are choosing to avoid the mega auction, instead opting for the mini-auction where they often secure more lucrative contracts. This trend has been noted as a growing concern.
A crucial meeting between the BCCI and IPL franchise CEOs is scheduled for later on Wednesday, July 31. Unlike previous discussions, this meeting is expected to involve serious deliberations, addressing numerous concerns before the focus shifts to the upcoming mega auction.
