Australia Includes Uncapped Nicole Faltum for New Zealand T20I Series

Australia has announced its 14-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against New Zealand, with wicketkeeper-batter Nicole Faltum earning her maiden international call-up. In the absence of regular captain Alyssa Healy, who is recovering from a foot injury, Tahlia McGrath will lead the team, while Ashleigh Gardner has been named vice-captain.

Nicole Faltum Earns Maiden Australia Call-Up

The 25-year-old Nicole Faltum has been a consistent performer in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) over the past eight seasons. She was part of Melbourne Renegades’ title-winning campaign in WBBL|10 and has now been recognized as a strong backup wicketkeeping option for Australia.

With Beth Mooney donning the gloves during the Women’s Ashes, selectors have opted to include a backup wicketkeeper for the upcoming series. Cricket Australia’s Head of Performance (Women’s Cricket) and National Selector Shawn Flegler highlighted the importance of planning for the future.

“Nicole has been a consistent performer over a long period, and we see her as a strong back-up for Beth. It’s important to continue looking ahead, and Nicole has the potential to be a long-term asset for Australian cricket,” said Flegler.

Tahlia McGrath to Captain in Healy’s Absence

With Alyssa Healy still recovering from a foot injury sustained during the Ashes, Tahlia McGrath has been entrusted with leading the side. Healy’s rehab is progressing well, with the goal of returning in time for the Women’s ODI World Cup later this year.
