Australia Edge Ahead on Bowler-Dominated Day at Sabina Park

Cameron Green Anchors Australia Amidst Collapse After West Indies Fightback

A dramatic 15-wicket day at Sabina Park, Kingston, saw Australia hold a slight advantage at the end of Day 2 of the Test against West Indies, despite an aggressive bowling response from the hosts. Australia, who began their second innings with a 82-run lead, ended the day at 99/6, holding an overall lead of 181 runs.

It was a day where fast bowlers dominated from both ends, and batters were constantly tested on a spicy pitch offering seam, bounce, and variable pace.

West Indies Crumble Despite Early Resistance

Australia’s Pacers Hit Back in the Second Session

Resuming at 16/1, West Indies initially displayed resolve in the morning session. Brandon King was the first to fall, trapped LBW by Josh Hazlewood, with the decision upheld on umpire’s call. Despite Scott Boland’s overstepping troubles and missed chances behind the stumps by Alex Carey, Australia gradually broke through.

Roston Chase looked determined but played a loose shot to Pat Cummins, edging to slips. West Indies went to lunch at 73/3, seemingly in a position to build a decent total.

However, the second session turned the tide. Boland and Cummins ripped through the middle and lower order. John Campbell shouldered arms to a straight one, Mikyle Louis and Shai Hope were bowled, while Justin Greaves was involved in a needless run-out. The tail offered little, as West Indies collapsed to 143 all out, conceding a first-innings deficit of 82.

Alzarri Joseph Sparks Collapse in Australia’s Second Innings

Green Stands Tall as Top Order Fails Again

West Indies didn’t let the game drift. Right from the second over, they found breakthroughs as Sam Konstas edged to gully for a duck. Usman Khawaja was bowled by a beautiful delivery, and then Alzarri Joseph took centerstage.

He produced a fiery burst that sent back Steve Smith, Beau Webster, and Alex Carey — all clean or edging deliveries that jagged off the pitch. In between, Travis Head nicked one to the slips, giving Shamar Joseph his fifth wicket of the match.

Despite the chaos, Cameron Green held firm. He struck several crisp boundaries and showed resilience, surviving two awkward moments while running between the wickets. At stumps, he was unbeaten on 42, with skipper Pat Cummins at the other end on 7.

The visitors closed the day at 99/6, having extended their lead to 181 runs, but with only four wickets in hand — making Day 3 crucial for both sides.

What to Expect on Day 3

With just four wickets remaining and the pitch continuing to assist seamers, Australia will hope Green and Cummins can stretch the lead past 250. West Indies, on the other hand, will be eager to wrap up the innings quickly and set themselves a gettable target on a challenging surface.
