Ruthless Australia Seal 8-0 Caribbean Tour with Dominant T20I Clean Sweep

Australia Complete 5-0 T20I Whitewash After Test Sweep

In an incredible display of dominance, Australia concluded their tour of the Caribbean with a flawless 8-0 record, having swept both the Test (3-0) and T20I (5-0) series against a struggling West Indies side. The final T20I in St Kitts witnessed yet another clinical performance, as Australia chased down 171 with three overs to spare, thanks to a powerful middle-order assault.

First Innings: West Indies Falter Despite Hetmyer Heroics

Early Setbacks and Missed Momentum

Electing to bowl first, Australia struck early in the powerplay. Returning pacer Ben Dwarshuis delivered crucial blows by dismissing both West Indies openers, immediately putting the hosts on the back foot. Keacy Carty‘s scratchy 8-ball innings ended quickly, adding to the early woes.

Rutherford and Hetmyer Fight Back

A brief resurgence came through Sherfane Rutherford, who found the boundary consistently and gave some momentum to the innings. However, a sharp delivery from Glenn Maxwell bowled him for 35 just when he looked set. From there, Shimron Hetmyer anchored the innings, accelerating with confidence. He smashed Ben Dwarshuis for 4, 6, 4 in a single over to reach a quickfire 50 off 30 balls.

Collapse at the Death

Just as the West Indies looked to push past 180, Hetmyer fell immediately after his fifty, triggering a lower-order collapse. The final three overs produced only 14 runs as the hosts were bowled out for 170 in 19.4 overs. Dwarshuis finished with 3 wickets, effectively setting up the chase for Australia.

Second Innings: Middle-Order Blitz Powers Aussie Chase

A Shaky Start for Australia

Australia’s run chase began with a flurry of boundaries but also saw early wickets tumble. Glenn Maxwell was out for a golden duck, while Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh followed quickly. At 25/3, the West Indies were briefly on top.

David and Owen Counterattack

Returning after being rested, Tim David launched a counter-offensive, smashing two sixes each off Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph before being dismissed for a brisk cameo. Then came Mitchell Owen, who made full use of a wayward spell from Matthew Forde, hammering 22 runs in a single over. A subsequent 21-run over ensured that Australia never looked back despite the initial hiccups.

Green’s Consistency Seals Player of the Series

Cameron Green, who had been Australia’s most consistent performer throughout the series, once again contributed a handy knock. Even though Akeal Hosein picked up 3 wickets, including Green and Owen, Australia maintained control. Aaron Hardie held his nerve and steered the team past the finish line with three overs to spare.
