Andhra Cricket Association Revives Women’s T20 League with Bigger Format and Bold Vision

ACA Announces Major Boost for Women’s Cricket at AGM in Vijayawada
The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has officially confirmed the return of the Andhra Women’s T20 League, marking a strong step forward in the promotion of women’s cricket in the state. The announcement came during ACA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on June 8 in Vijayawada. This strategic move reflects ACA’s renewed commitment to nurturing female cricketing talent in Andhra Pradesh and aligns with India’s broader vision for empowering women in sports.
League Returns with Expanded Format and Independent Identity
Four Teams to Compete in 2025 Edition
After a year’s hiatus, the women’s T20 tournament, which previously featured three teams, will now return with an expanded four-team format. Unlike earlier editions, the revamped league will be held independently from the Andhra Premier League (APL) — the state’s franchise-based T20 tournament for men.
ACA officials have confirmed that both men’s and women’s leagues will eventually be conducted simultaneously at a single venue starting next year. This shift is aimed at achieving logistical efficiency and operational synergy, especially in terms of venue management, broadcasting, and administrative resources.

ACA to Run League Before Future Privatization
Initially, the Andhra Cricket Association will retain full control over the women’s league, handling all aspects of operations, team management, and logistics. However, there are plans to transition to a franchise-based model in future editions. ACA intends to invite private stakeholders, sponsors, and cricket entrepreneurs to establish independent franchises — a move that mirrors the successful business structure of other Indian T20 leagues.
Vision for Women’s Cricket Driven by Political and Sporting Leaders
The revival of the league is strongly backed by ACA’s leadership. ACA President Kesineni Sivanath, a Lok Sabha MP from Vijayawada, and Secretary S Satish, a Rajya Sabha MP, have outlined a clear and ambitious roadmap for the future of women’s cricket in Andhra.
An ACA official emphasized that this initiative is “a testimony of ACA’s focus for women’s cricket in the state,” and assured that institutional support will remain a top priority.
Mithali Raj’s Involvement and Formation of Dedicated Committees
Women-Only Selection and Oversight Committees Planned
India’s legendary cricketer Mithali Raj, who is the current convenor of women’s cricket in Andhra, will play a key role in shaping the future of the league. Over the coming days, ACA plans to form a women’s cricket committee to manage league operations, outreach, grassroots development, and overall strategy.
In a progressive move, the league’s selection committee will consist exclusively of women members, ensuring fair representation and leadership from female voices within the cricketing ecosystem.
