Aminul Islam Appointed New BCB President, Sets Sights on Transparent Governance and Grassroots Reform

Former National Captain Takes Over from Faruque Ahmed
In a significant administrative change, former Bangladesh captain Aminul Islam has been named the new President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), replacing Faruque Ahmed. The announcement was officially confirmed on May 30, making Aminul the 16th president in the board’s history.
The development follows a directive from the National Sports Council (NSC), which removed Faruque Ahmed from both his role as BCB president and his status as a councillor. Aminul, who had earlier been appointed as a government-nominated councillor, now steps into the top role with a clear mission to bring change.
Aminul Islam’s Vision: A United Bangladesh for Cricket
In his first public statement as president, Aminul emphasized the need for collective progress in Bangladesh cricket:
“Cricket is not just played by eleven players—it’s played by all of Bangladesh. We’ve already proved ourselves by winning the U19 World Cup and the Women’s Asia Cup. Now we must move forward together as one team.”
He also expressed gratitude to the BCB directors for entrusting him with the position and stressed his commitment to building a system that works for every level of cricket in the country.

Strategic Focus: Grassroots Development and Transparency
A Framework for Regional Cricket Bodies
One of Aminul’s primary goals is to decentralize cricket development by creating regional cricket governing bodies across Bangladesh—a vision that dates back to the country’s entry into Test cricket.
“The framework for regional bodies is ready. I’ll present it to the board immediately. The three key pillars will be:
A nationwide coaching infrastructure
Scouting for grassroots talent
A competitive domestic circuit to nurture raw skills”
Drawing from his past experience as an ICC Development Officer, Aminul believes this plan will help discover and develop talent from rural and underrepresented areas, ensuring a broader pool of players for the future.
A New Leadership Team
Joining Aminul are two newly elected vice presidents, Fahim Sinha and Nazmul Abedin Fahim. Together, the trio plans to modernize board operations and implement a forward-looking development strategy.
“We have plans, and now we have the responsibility. We want to deliver results, not just make statements. Let’s work as one to elevate Bangladesh cricket.”
NSC’s Role and Official Appointment
The NSC issued a formal letter dated May 29, confirming Faruque Ahmed’s removal and Aminul Islam’s appointment. This move follows growing demands for a fresh leadership approach in Bangladesh cricket, focusing on transparency, decentralization, and inclusiveness.
