Zak Crawley Leads Northern Superchargers to Commanding Win Over London Spirit

The Hundred 2025 witnessed another dominant performance as Northern Superchargers cruised to an emphatic 8-wicket victory over London Spirit at Lord’s. London Spirit, struggling for consistency this season, slumped to their fourth defeat, failing to defend a modest total of 135 despite losing only three wickets in their innings. Zak Crawley’s blistering half-century set the tone for Superchargers’ chase, completed with 18 balls to spare.

London Spirit Struggle Despite Wickets in Hand

Opting to bat first at the iconic venue, London Spirit never managed to inject momentum into their innings. The Superchargers’ bowlers were disciplined from the start, sending down seven dot balls across the opening sets. David Warner fell cheaply, leaving the responsibility on skipper Kane Williamson and Jamie Smith.

Smith and Turner Show Promise but Momentum Dries Up

Williamson struck a few boundaries but failed to convert his start, while Jamie Smith tried to steady the innings. Smith played positively, even clearing the shorter boundary for the first six of the innings. However, his dismissal at deep midwicket midway through halted the Spirit’s scoring rate further.

From there, Ollie Pope (52* off 38) and Ashton Turner (28* off 22) remained unbeaten, but their inability to find regular boundaries cost Spirit dearly. Turner struck three fours early in his innings but failed to score a single boundary in his last 16 balls. Even more concerning was the finish – no boundary came in the final 20 deliveries of the innings. Pope, despite reaching a steady fifty, relied heavily on singles and twos rather than aggressive stroke play.

Spirit’s eventual total of 135/3 in 100 balls looked below-par, especially on a true batting surface at Lord’s.

Crawley’s Brilliance Guides Superchargers’ Chase

Chasing 136, Northern Superchargers started aggressively, with Zak Crawley attacking the Spirit bowlers from ball one. He smashed four boundaries in the opening six deliveries, immediately putting Spirit on the back foot. His positive intent ensured that the chase never looked out of reach.

Malan’s Struggles Overshadowed by Lawrence’s Cameo

Dawid Malan struggled for fluency, consuming 21 balls for his 22 runs, but Crawley’s dominance at the other end balanced the innings. After Malan’s dismissal, Dan Lawrence (37 off 23) entered and injected fresh energy into the chase. Both Crawley and Lawrence cleared the boundary with sixes over midwicket, leaving Spirit completely helpless in the field.

Lawrence’s dismissal came with just 17 runs left to win, but by then the game was well in Superchargers’ grasp. Crawley brought up his half-century with another towering six, showcasing excellent timing and placement. Harry Brook then finished things off in style with two quick boundaries, sealing the victory emphatically.

Key Performers of the Match

  • Zak Crawley: An unbeaten 55 off 34 balls to anchor the chase.

  • Dan Lawrence: A brisk 37 that ensured the Superchargers kept up the tempo.

  • Ollie Pope: Spirit’s lone bright spot with a composed 52*.

  • Tom Lawes: Picked up 2/34 and applied early pressure in the first innings.

The win puts Northern Superchargers firmly in contention in the Hundred 2025 standings, while London Spirit’s season continues to spiral downward with repeated failures in posting competitive totals.

Match Summary

London Spirit – 135/3 in 100 balls (Ollie Pope 52*, Jamie Smith 41; Tom Lawes 2/34)
Northern Superchargers – 138/2 in 82 balls (Zak Crawley 55*, Dan Lawrence 37; Mason Crane 1/29)
