London Spirit Crush Birmingham Phoenix by Record 88-Run Margin in The Women’s Hundred

Spirit Dominate to Claim Top Spot on Net Run Rate

London Spirit delivered a commanding performance at Lord’s to hand Birmingham Phoenix a crushing 88-run defeat — the heaviest margin in The Women’s Hundred history. The emphatic win lifted Spirit to the top of the points table on net run rate, while Phoenix’s struggles deepened as they slumped to their fourth loss in five matches, leaving their playoff hopes hanging by a thread.

Kira Chathli’s Blazing Knock Sets the Tone

Spirit’s innings was anchored by opener Kira Chathli, who played the finest knock of her Hundred career. After a cautious start that left Spirit at 22/2 inside the powerplay, Chathli exploded with a flurry of boundaries. Her 69 off just 35 deliveries featured 13 crisp fours, showcasing both power and precision.

Grace Harris and Charli Knott Provide Momentum

Chathli found valuable support in Charli Knott and later Grace Harris, who ensured the innings never lost momentum. Harris in particular was destructive, smashing 34 off just 15 balls, including four boundaries and a six, propelling Spirit beyond the 160-run mark.

All-rounder Danielle Gibson also chipped in with late runs, ensuring Spirit closed their innings strongly at 164/6 in 100 balls. For Birmingham Phoenix, Em Arlott was the lone bright spot with the ball, returning figures of 3/25.

Birmingham Phoenix Collapse in the Run Chase

The Phoenix batting effort fell apart almost instantly. Georgia Voll was dismissed in the opening stages, and although Emma Lamb counterattacked with a quick 23 off 13 balls, her unfortunate run-out triggered a complete collapse.

Middle-Order Failure and Wickets in Clusters

The experienced Ellyse Perry was sent back by Charli Knott, while Amy Jones was bowled by Charlie Dean as Phoenix’s middle order folded under pressure. From 40/3, the team crumbled further as Eva Gray, Rebecca Tyson, and Dean ripped through the lower order.

Phoenix were left reeling at 58/7, and with Phoebe Brett unable to bat due to a thumb injury, their chase ended limply. Megan Schutt was bowled by Gray, and Hannah Baker was run out immediately after, sealing their fate at 76 all out in 79 balls.

Record-Breaking Win for Spirit

The 88-run victory was not only the largest in Women’s Hundred history but also a statement of intent from London Spirit as they push toward the knockout stages. For Birmingham Phoenix, it was another night of disappointment as their campaign continues to unravel.

Brief Scores:

  • London Spirit: 164/6 in 100 balls (Kira Chathli 69, Grace Harris 34; Em Arlott 3-25)

  • Birmingham Phoenix: 76 all out in 79 balls (Emma Lamb 23; Eva Gray 2-13, Charlie Dean 2-16)

  • Result: Spirit won by 88 runs
