Jadeja’s Lone Battle Falls Short as England Edge India in Lord’s Thriller to Take 2-1 Lead

England Clinch Lord’s Test by 22 Runs Despite Ravindra Jadeja’s Heroics

England pulled off a nail-biting 22-run victory over India in the third Test at Lord’s to take a 2-1 series lead in the five-match series. The hosts defended a modest target of 193, despite Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 61 and India’s valiant lower-order resistance that pushed the contest into the final session on Day 5.

India’s spirited chase, built on grit and defiance, came alive through Jadeja’s partnerships with Nitish Reddy and Jasprit Bumrah. However, timely breakthroughs from Chris Woakes, Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes ensured that England stayed on top in a high-pressure finale.

England’s Fightback Begins with a Morning Collapse

Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes Trigger Indian Slide

Resuming Day 5 at 58/4, needing 135 more runs to win, India’s hopes were dented early by a fiery English pace attack. Rishabh Pant, who showed promise with two boundaries, was cleaned up by Archer. Stokes then trapped KL Rahul plumb in front — a decision confirmed on DRS review. The next over, Archer’s sensational reflex catch off his own bowling dismissed Washington Sundar for a duck, leaving India reeling at 82/7 after a collapse of 3 for 11.

The match seemed to be slipping away until Jadeja, calm yet resolute, forged a gritty 30-run stand with Nitish Reddy.

Jadeja’s Lone Stand and the Fight with the Tail

Jadeja took full charge of the situation with controlled aggression and composure. Partnering with Bumrah, who contributed just 5 runs off 54 balls, the all-rounder stitched a 35-run partnership — frustrating England with his calculated batting and clever strike rotation.

England tried everything — Archer’s pace, Stokes’ short balls, even aggressive field placements — but Jadeja was unmoved. He refused easy singles to shield Bumrah and accelerated when needed, even smashing Woakes for a six over mid-wicket. Bumrah, meanwhile, absorbed pressure, taking 41 balls to score his second run after a classy pull for four.

Siraj and Jadeja Try to Pull Off the Impossible

With nine down and 33 runs still needed, Siraj joined Jadeja and braved body blows and hostile spells. He stayed firm for 30 balls and even celebrated Jadeja’s fourth fifty of the series. But in the final session, England threw a surprise with spin — Shoaib Bashir, despite an injured finger, cleaned up Siraj to seal England’s thrilling win.

Root, Woakes, Archer Shine in All-Round Effort

While Joe Root’s first-innings century and 40 in the second provided crucial runs, it was England’s bowling unit that ultimately tilted the game. Archer’s 3/55, Woakes’ 3/48, and Stokes’ inspirational spells on the final day broke India’s resistance.

India were left heartbroken, especially Jadeja — who stood tall with an unbeaten 61, his knock echoing fight, resilience, and defiance.
