India Women extended their dominance over England in the ongoing five-match T20I series by registering a commanding 24-run victory in the second encounter held in Bristol. With this win, the visitors now lead the series 2-0, riding on impressive half-centuries from Jemimah Rodrigues and Amanjot Kaur, followed by a tight bowling display led by Shree Charani and Deepti Sharma.
Rodrigues and Amanjot Anchor India’s Strong Batting Display
India were once again asked to bat first after England won the toss. The visitors looked threatening right from the start, with Smriti Mandhana slicing two early boundaries. However, India lost momentum in the powerplay as Shafali Verma failed on return, and Mandhana departed for just 13. Things worsened when Harmanpreet Kaur, returning to the XI, fell cheaply for 1.
With the scoreboard reading 35/3 at the end of six overs, the onus fell on Jemimah Rodrigues and Amanjot Kaur to stabilize the innings. Amanjot soon followed Rodrigues’s lead, finding the fence three times in quick succession. The pair added a flurry of 49 runs in just three overs, lifting India to a commanding position. Although Rodrigues eventually fell to a spectacular catch by Sophia Dunkley, Amanjot completed her fifty during the slog overs. Together with Richa Ghosh, who remained unbeaten on 32 off 20 balls, Amanjot powered India to an imposing total of 181/4 in 20 overs.
Early Wickets Crush England’s Chase Hopes
With the scoreboard pressure firmly on England, India came out firing with the ball. Deepti Sharma struck off her first delivery, dismissing Dani Wyatt-Hodge, while Dunkley ran herself out in the opening over. England were suddenly reduced to 17/3, and even though Nat Sciver-Brunt attempted to lift the innings with three quick boundaries, she was undone by Amanjot soon after.
From that point, England were always chasing the game. Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones forged a much-needed recovery partnership, with Beaumont looking particularly fluent. She brought up her first T20I fifty in four years, keeping England alive in the chase.
Sneh Rana’s Run-Out Turns the Game
Just as Beaumont seemed ready to accelerate, a brilliant run-out from Sneh Rana dashed England’s hopes. That moment triggered another collapse, as India tightened their grip with controlled bowling and sharp fielding. Despite a late burst from Sophie Ecclestone, who remained unbeaten on 35, England fell short, managing only 157/7 in 20 overs.
