Corbin Bosch’s Fifer Leads South Africa to Record 328-Run Win Over Zimbabwe

South Africa Humiliate Zimbabwe with Their Biggest-Ever Test Defeat

Corbin Bosch delivered a spectacular all-round performance as South Africa thrashed Zimbabwe by 328 runs in the one-off Test match in Bulawayo, recording Zimbabwe’s heaviest defeat in Test history. Bosch, who scored a century in the first innings, followed it up with a devastating 5-wicket haul in the second, dismantling Zimbabwe’s resistance on Day 4 (July 1).

Chasing an improbable target of 537 runs, Zimbabwe folded for just 208, despite a gritty half-century from Wellington Masakadza and a fighting 49 from Craig Ervine. The Proteas’ dominant display sealed the game well inside four days and underscored their superiority throughout the contest.

Day 4: Bosch Strikes Early to Set Tone for Collapse

South Africa started Day 4 in full control with Zimbabwe resuming at 32/1. Bosch wasted no time—he struck on the first ball of the morning, removing Nick Welch for a golden duck. Though Sean Williams tried to shift momentum with consecutive boundaries in the same over, Bosch dismissed him soon after, ending a promising knock of 26 (18) and extinguishing Zimbabwe’s hopes.

The collapse deepened when Codi Yusuf joined the attack. His first delivery of the day dismissed Prince Masvaure, and in two more overs, he sent back Wessly Madhevere and Tafadzwa Tsiga, both without scoring. Zimbabwe quickly slumped to 82/6, losing five wickets in the session and virtually sealing their fate.

Resistance from Ervine and Masakadza Delays the Inevitable

Seventh-Wicket Partnership Offers Brief Respite

A brief moment of resistance came courtesy of Craig Ervine and Wellington Masakadza, who stitched together an 83-run partnership to stabilize Zimbabwe’s innings. The duo held firm for 20 overs before Bosch returned to break the stand, removing Ervine for 49 and claiming his fourth wicket.

Dropped earlier on 10, Masakadza made the most of his reprieve by going on to score a fighting 57, eventually becoming the top scorer for Zimbabwe in the innings. But once the partnership was broken, the floodgates reopened.

Bosch Completes Fifer as South Africa Wrap Up Win in Style

Bosch continued his rampage by cleaning up Vincent Masekesa, completing a memorable five-wicket haul (5-43). With the hosts tottering at 173/8, a short burst of aggression from Blessing Muzarabani delayed the end. He struck three boundaries and two sixes off Dewald Brevis and Keshav Maharaj, momentarily entertaining the home crowd.

However, Brevis had the last laugh when he had Tanaka Chivanga stumped, sealing Zimbabwe’s innings at 208 and handing South Africa a resounding 328-run victory—their biggest against Zimbabwe in Test cricket.

In response, Zimbabwe showed some fight with Sean Williams’ 137 in the first innings but lacked depth and resilience in their second outing.
