BCCI Awaits Government Clearance for Bangladesh Tour, Confirms BCB President Aminul Islam

India’s White-Ball Tour to Bangladesh Uncertain Amid Political Tensions
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam has revealed that India’s proposed white-ball tour to Bangladesh, scheduled for August 2025, remains uncertain due to pending governmental clearance from New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to Islam, is keen on the series but is awaiting official clearance amid the prevailing political situation between the two countries.
India was scheduled to visit Bangladesh for three ODIs and three T20Is starting August 17, but the likelihood of the series taking place on time now appears slim.
“We’re having positive discussions with the BCCI,” Aminul Islam stated during a media interaction following the 19th BCB board meeting held at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on June 30.
He added, “It’s not only about August or September. If the tour doesn’t happen now, we will host it later. The BCCI is waiting for government clearance. We are both exploring alternate dates if necessary.”
BCB Brings In Simon Taufel to Lead Umpiring Development
Three-Year Contract Signed with Former ICC Elite Umpire
In a major move aimed at enhancing umpiring standards in Bangladesh, the BCB has finalized a contract with former ICC elite umpire Simon Taufel to head umpire education in the country. Taufel, widely regarded as one of the most respected umpires in international cricket, will lead the training and development of Bangladeshi umpires through a comprehensive three-year program.
“We’ve nearly finalized the agreement. Simon and his team will help us raise our umpiring standards,” said Aminul.
This move is expected to align Bangladesh’s domestic umpiring systems with global benchmarks, potentially opening pathways for Bangladeshi umpires at the international level.

BCB to Include Women Selectors and Expand Men’s Panel
Steps Towards Gender Inclusion and Broader Selection Panel
The BCB has also expressed intent to increase representation in its selection committees. Currently, Sazzad Ahmed serves as the lone selector for the national women’s team. The board has now decided to include at least one woman in the selection panel for women’s cricket.
“We have taken a decision to include women selectors in the women’s team soon,” Aminul said.
Meanwhile, the men’s selection panel, presently composed of Gazi Ashraf and Abdur Razzak, is also set to be expanded. BCB officials noted that the growing volume of domestic and international cricket necessitates a third selector.
“Two selectors cannot cover everything effectively in today’s cricketing landscape. We plan to add one more to the panel,” Aminul added.
