Rassie van der Dussen to Captain South Africa in Harare T20I Tri-Series

New-Look Proteas Squad to Face New Zealand and Zimbabwe from July 14
South Africa will field a revamped T20I squad under the leadership of Rassie van der Dussen in the upcoming T20I tri-series scheduled in Harare, Zimbabwe, starting July 14. The tri-series, featuring hosts Zimbabwe and fellow southern hemisphere rivals New Zealand, marks the beginning of South Africa’s road to the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.
With regular skipper Aiden Markram and several senior players rested as part of workload management, this tournament presents an ideal opportunity for several uncapped and emerging cricketers to showcase their potential at the international level.

SA20 Performers Earn Call-Ups
Among the most notable inclusions is Lhuan-dre Pretorius, the breakout star of this year’s SA20, who finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. The young opener has been handed his maiden international call-up following an outstanding domestic campaign. Joining him is Rubin Hermann, another top performer in the SA20, who will also be making his international debut.
Corbin Bosch, known for his ODI and Test appearances, will make his T20I debut, while Senuran Muthusamy, having previously represented the national side in the other two formats, will feature in a T20I squad for the first time.

Return of Key Players Bolsters Bowling Attack
Another major boost for the Proteas comes in the form of returning pacers Nandre Burger and Gerald Coetzee, both of whom are recovering from long-term injuries. They are currently active in the Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States, regaining fitness and rhythm. Their comeback will strengthen South Africa’s pace arsenal ahead of a long T20 calendar.
The hard-hitting Dewald Brevis, once dubbed “Baby AB” for his explosive batting style, also returns to the national setup after nearly two years. His presence adds firepower to the middle order and brings in valuable T20 experience gained in franchise leagues globally.
Shukri Conrad’s First T20I Challenge as All-Format Head Coach
This series will be the first T20I coaching assignment for Shukri Conrad, who was appointed as South Africa’s all-format head coach earlier this year. Speaking ahead of the series, Conrad emphasized the importance of this tri-series in building towards the 2026 T20 World Cup.
“This T20I tri-series marks the start of our preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup,” Conrad stated. “With several senior players rested as part of their workload management, it creates space for younger talents to step in, perform under pressure, and make a case for long-term inclusion.”
He added, “We’ve rewarded domestic form—Lhuan-dre and Rubin were brilliant in SA20—and we’re keen to see how their domestic success translates to international cricket. Corbin has been consistent in the longer formats, and this is a chance to test his skills in the shortest format.”
Match Schedule and Final Date
The tri-series will begin on July 14, with South Africa clashing against hosts Zimbabwe in the opener. The final is scheduled for July 26, offering an intense window of high-octane cricket in Harare.
