Prithvi Shaw Requests NOC from Mumbai, Eyes Move to New State Team Ahead of Domestic Season

Former India Opener Looks for Fresh Start with Another State Association
In a significant development ahead of the 2025-26 Indian domestic cricket season, Prithvi Shaw, the once-celebrated prodigy of Indian cricket, has formally sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). The request suggests that Shaw is preparing for a move away from his home team, where he made his name, in pursuit of a new opportunity with another State Cricket Association.
Shaw Informs MCA of Multiple Offers from Other States
Shaw, who last played for Mumbai on December 24, has communicated to the MCA that he has received offers from at least three to four other state associations. According to MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap, the NOC request has been acknowledged and will soon be processed.
“He has just sent us a letter seeking NOC. We have informed the Apex Council members. We will issue the NOC soon,” Hadap told Cricbuzz.
The 25-year-old cricketer stated in his letter that the opportunity to play professional cricket under a new state setup could “contribute to his growth and development” as a player, reflecting his intent to revive a career that has seen multiple setbacks.
Once a Teenage Sensation, Now Seeking Redemption
Rise and Fall of a Promising Career
Shaw burst onto the scene as a teenage sensation, scoring a century on his Test debut in 2018 and drawing comparisons to batting greats. However, despite a sparkling start, he struggled with form, fitness, and discipline, which led to his gradual decline from both domestic and international circuits.
Having played just five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I for India, Shaw’s last international appearance came in 2021. Since then, he has not only lost his spot in the Mumbai Ranji squad but also remained unsold in the latest IPL auction.
Shaw’s Letter to MCA Reflects Gratitude and Hope
In his request, Shaw maintained a respectful tone, expressing gratitude to the MCA for their support over the years.
“At this juncture of my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association… I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC)… I remain ever grateful to the MCA for the guidance and platform provided over the years,” wrote Shaw.
This move signals his desire to reset his cricketing journey and possibly rediscover the form that once made him a household name in Indian cricket.
