BCCI Refutes Reports of Withdrawal from Asia Cup and ACC Events

BCCI Denies Media Speculation on Asia Cup Exit
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has strongly denied recent media reports claiming that India plans to withdraw from the upcoming Asia Cup and the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, both events under the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
In a statement to Cricbuzz, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board has not even discussed the possibility of pulling out from any ACC tournaments, let alone informed the council of such a decision.
No Official Communication with ACC, Says BCCI Secretary
Saikia clarified, “Since this morning, we have come across news reports suggesting that the BCCI has decided not to participate in the Asia Cup and the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup. These reports are completely baseless. There has been no such discussion or decision taken by the BCCI regarding these tournaments.”
He further added that the board’s current focus is on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) and the upcoming England series for both men’s and women’s teams.

Political Tensions Fuel Speculation Around ACC Events
Operation Sindoor and its Impact on Cricket Narratives
The media speculation intensified after Indian armed forces launched “Operation Sindoor” targeting Pakistan-based terror threats. Since then, multiple reports emerged suggesting that India might opt out of any cricketing events hosted by Pakistan or its allies, including Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to host the second edition of the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
However, BCCI has dismissed these assumptions as mere speculation. According to Saikia, no such matters have come up for discussion within the board.
BCCI’s Current Priority: IPL and England Series
No Time for ACC Discussions Amid Ongoing Domestic and International Preparations
As the IPL 2025 heads into its crucial phase, and the England tour approaches, the BCCI has made it clear that its sole priority is team preparation and player management for these key tournaments.
“The issue of the Asia Cup or any other ACC event has not come up at any level. Therefore, any reports claiming otherwise are purely speculative. BCCI will make an official announcement if and when any decision is taken,” said Saikia.
