SRH Knocked Out of IPL 2025 After Rain-Washed Match Against Delhi Capitals

Rain Denies Sunrisers Hyderabad Crucial Victory in Must-Win Game
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were dealt a crushing blow in their quest for a playoff spot in IPL 2025 as rain washed out their crucial clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Despite an outstanding bowling performance that restricted DC to a modest 133/7, the rain gods had other plans. Persistent showers after the first innings led to a no-result, officially ending SRH’s playoff hopes this season.
Clinical Bowling Effort Goes in Vain for SRH
Cummins Stars in the Powerplay
Delhi Capitals found themselves in early trouble after opting to bat first. SRH skipper Pat Cummins led from the front, dismantling the top order with a sensational spell. He removed Karun Nair off the first ball and then sent back Faf du Plessis and Abishek Porel, ending the powerplay with figures of 3/13. This fiery start saw DC stumble to 26/4 within the first six overs.
Cummins’ triple strike made him the first captain in IPL history to take three wickets in a powerplay, setting the tone for a dominant bowling performance.
Middle Overs Strangle DC’s Progress
Jaydev Unadkat added to DC’s woes by dismissing KL Rahul in the seventh over. The Capitals’ batters struggled to build momentum, managing just 60 runs in the middle overs. Tristan Stubbs and debutant Vipraj Nigam attempted to stabilize the innings, but a lack of boundaries and a crucial run-out derailed their recovery. Ashutosh Sharma, coming in as an impact substitute, injected brief energy with two sixes off Zeeshan Ansari, but the damage had already been done.

Ashutosh and Stubbs Push DC Beyond 130
Despite a sluggish innings, DC managed to gather 47 runs in the final four overs. Ashutosh hit back-to-back boundaries off Harshal Patel in the 17th over, and Stubbs contributed with a pair of fours off Eshan Malinga. Their 50-run partnership came off 35 balls, offering some respectability to the score. Malinga bowled a tight final over, dismissing Ashutosh and keeping the total to 133/7.
Pat Cummins finished with 3/19 in four overs, while Harshal and Malinga chipped in with economical spells, underlining SRH’s strong bowling effort.
Rain Halts SRH’s Playoff Dream
Unfortunately for the hosts, the match couldn’t resume after the first innings due to persistent rainfall. Despite efforts by the ground staff, the field remained unplayable, and the umpires called off the match after a lengthy delay. The no-result meant that both teams shared a point each.

This outcome left SRH mathematically out of the playoff race, joining Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals among the eliminated teams. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals gained some breathing space in the standings, keeping their playoff aspirations alive.
What’s Next for SRH and DC?
Sunrisers Hyderabad will have a four-day gap before they host Kolkata Knight Riders in another home fixture at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals head north to Dharamshala for a vital clash against Punjab Kings on May 8, which could define their path to the playoffs.
