Mohammad Amir Announces Retirement from International Cricket After PCB Snub

Amir Slams PCB, Confirms International Retirement After T20 World Cup Fallout
Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has officially drawn the curtain on his international cricket career once again, citing persistent neglect by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The fiery left-arm seamer, known as much for his blistering pace as his candid personality, opened up in a recent interview with Geo News—shedding light on his aggressive mindset, his sacrifices for the national team, and the lack of respect he feels from the PCB.
Amir’s Philosophy: Controlled Aggression Over Soft Smiles
“If You Hit Me, I Hit Back—With Words”
In an era increasingly dominated by friendly fist bumps and light-hearted banter, Mohammad Amir is a throwback to a grittier brand of cricket. Speaking on his mental approach, Amir made it clear he doesn’t believe in exchanging smiles after being hit for boundaries.
“If someone hits a boundary off my first ball, I’m not going to shake hands. I’ll throw him off mentally by saying something sharp,” Amir said.
Amir went on to express his admiration for legends like Sir Vivian Richards, referencing how intense and confrontational cricket used to be. According to him, the golden age of cricket was defined by boldness and psychological warfare.
“It used to feel like someone might just swing the bat at you for real.”
However, Amir clarified he draws a line between passion and vulgarity. He believes his aggression is strategic, not abusive.
“If I cross the line, the umpire and referee will fine me. But if they don’t, it means I’m playing within limits—aggressively but responsibly.”
Silence from PCB: Amir’s Painful T20 World Cup Experience
The real sting, according to Amir, came not on the field, but off it—after the T20 World Cup 2024. Amir disclosed that despite giving up his county contract to represent Pakistan, he ended up paying out of his own pocket to bring his personal trainer along.
“I spent more money playing the World Cup than I earned from it. But the worst part? After the tournament, no one from PCB even contacted me.”
The lack of communication from the board ultimately became the tipping point.
“If no one is talking to you or telling you about future plans, you get the message. I’ve decided—thank you international cricket.”

Back in PSL 2025: Quetta Gladiators Rely on Amir’s Experience
Now suiting up for Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing PSL 2025, Amir appears more focused on franchise cricket. His team has had a mixed run so far, with just one win in three games. Despite a wobbly top order, the Gladiators’ bowling attack—powered by Amir’s leadership—has been impressive.
“Our bowling is in sync, and with Mark Chapman adding depth in the middle order, we’re finding our rhythm,” said Amir.
The Gladiators will next face Karachi Kings in Match 15 on Friday, April 25, at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium—a clash expected to draw significant attention.
