Rishabh Pant Fined ₹12 Lakh for Slow Over-Rate in Thrilling Win Against Mumbai Indians

LSG Captain Penalised After Tense Final-Over Victory
In a dramatic showdown at the IPL 2025, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been penalised ₹12 lakh by the IPL governing body for maintaining a slow over-rate in his side’s nail-biting clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday, April 4.
While LSG clinched a 12-run victory in a match that went down to the wire, Pant faced repercussions due to his team’s inability to bowl their overs within the stipulated time. However, the match’s intense nature — especially in the final overs — required more planning and strategy, which contributed to the delay in proceedings.
No Ban Imposed on Rishabh Pant Despite First Offence
As per IPL’s updated rules in 2025, first-time offenders are only subjected to monetary penalties, with suspensions or match bans ruled out. This means Rishabh Pant will continue to lead LSG in their upcoming clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The ₹12 lakh fine will be deducted from Pant’s match fee, a standard practice for slow over-rate violations. The IPL has been strict this season in ensuring all teams adhere to over-rate regulations to maintain match timelines.
LSG Spinner Digvesh Singh Faces Bigger Fine for Repeated Offence
Controversial Celebration Draws Criticism and Costly Penalty
Adding to LSG’s disciplinary woes, young spinner Digvesh Singh has been fined 50% of his match fees for a second offence related to the IPL Code of Conduct.

During the previous fixture against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Digvesh had been penalised 25% of his fees for giving a ‘notebook send-off’ to Priyansh Arya — a gesture that drew backlash from fans and experts alike. However, despite the warning, Digvesh repeated the celebration after dismissing Naman Dhir during the MI clash, prompting a heavier penalty.
This incident has raised concerns over player conduct and the growing trend of animated celebrations in the IPL.
Multiple Captains Penalised in IPL 2025 for Slow Over-Rate
Rishabh Pant isn’t the only IPL captain to be fined this season. Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag have also faced similar penalties for over-rate issues, indicating a broader trend of delays in match completions.
The IPL 2025 committee is expected to increase vigilance and potentially introduce stricter time-keeping protocols for captains and fielding teams moving forward.
