Amelia Kerr Wins ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year Award 2024

New Zealand’s star all-rounder Amelia Kerr has etched her name in cricketing history by winning the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2024 award. Kerr became the first New Zealander to claim the coveted Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy after playing a pivotal role in her country’s maiden T20I World Cup victory in Dubai last October.

Kerr’s Dominance in T20I Cricket

In 2024, Amelia Kerr showcased her all-around brilliance, accumulating 387 runs and bagging 29 wickets at an astonishing bowling average of 15.55 in T20Is. Her exceptional performances were instrumental in New Zealand clinching their first-ever T20I World Cup title.

In the final against South Africa, Kerr delivered a match-winning performance, scoring a crucial 43 runs and returning bowling figures of 3-24. Her all-round efforts earned her both the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament awards. She also topped the tournament’s bowling charts, finishing as the leading wicket-taker with 15 scalps at an incredible average of 7.33, while also contributing 135 runs in six innings.

Stellar Year in 50-Over Cricket

Kerr’s achievements were not confined to the T20 format. In ODI cricket, she impressed with both bat and ball, scoring 264 runs at an average of 33.00 and taking 14 wickets. Her performances included two four-wicket hauls against top teams India and Australia, solidifying her reputation as one of the finest all-rounders in the game.


Overcoming Stiff Competition

To win the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award, Kerr outperformed an elite group of nominees, including South Africa’s captain Laura Wolvaardt, Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu, and Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland. This achievement further cemented Kerr’s position as one of the most influential cricketers in the modern era.

The 23-year-old expressed her gratitude upon receiving the award, calling it a “huge honour.”

“It’s a huge honour to win the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year,” said Kerr. “Individual awards aren’t something you think about much, but this is an extremely special one. It’s nice to be able to contribute for New Zealand; that’s all any cricketer wants. I’m grateful for the incredible support network that has helped me achieve this.”
