Litton Das Responds in Style After Champions Trophy Omission
Litton Das Shines Bright in the BPL
Hours after being left out of Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad, Litton Kumar Das made an emphatic statement by smashing a scintillating hundred in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). His performance not only helped Dhaka Capitals secure their first win of the season but also ended a six-match losing streak for the franchise.
Litton’s Record-Breaking Knock
The opener’s maiden BPL century came in just 44 balls, featuring 8 fours and 7 sixes. This knock placed Litton as the second-fastest Bangladeshi centurion in BPL history, trailing only Parvez Hossain Emon, who reached the milestone in 42 balls during the 2020 Bangabandhu BPL season. Ironically, it was Emon who replaced Litton in the Champions Trophy squad as the backup opener.
Recent Struggles and Redemption
Litton’s Form Slump
Litton’s recent performances in white-ball cricket had been underwhelming, with his last ODI fifty coming during the 2023 World Cup in India. Over his past five ODIs, he managed just six runs, including three ducks. These struggles made his omission from the Champions Trophy squad less surprising to many observers.
Litton’s Perspective
When asked if his knock was a response to critics, Litton remained humble and focused:
“No brother, there is nothing to prove to anyone and I am not interested to prove anything to anyone,” he remarked.
Instead, Litton emphasized self-improvement and consistency:
“At the back of the mind, I always feel how I can improve my cricket… The performance I gave today, I won’t say I will be able to do the same in the next game, but I will try to be consistent.”
Selectors’ Call and Litton’s Focus
Litton admitted that while he didn’t receive a detailed explanation for his exclusion, he was aware of the reasons:
“Why I was left out, you can get that in the media… It is an open secret and there is nothing to hide.”
Acknowledging the selectors’ decision, Litton remained optimistic about future opportunities:
“If they feel I am fit enough, they might give me the chance to make a comeback, but they are the ones to make the call. I am focusing on BPL for now and thinking about how I can do well.”
A Future Filled with Determination
Despite the setback, Litton has his sights set on improvement:
“What happened today is in the past… I might have played a good innings today, but I will have to start from scratch tomorrow again. I will work hard and let’s see what happens.”
