Bangladesh pace bowler Taskin Ahmed showcased a stellar performance in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), taking an extraordinary seven-wicket haul. His remarkable bowling figures of 7-19 not only secured Durbar Rajshahi’s first win of the season but also earned him a spot in T20 cricket history. Taskin credited his success to discipline and precise execution.
Setting Records in T20 Cricket
Taskin’s 7-19 ranks as the third-best bowling performance in ICC-recognized T20 matches. This historic achievement places him among an elite group, alongside Malaysia’s Syazrul Idrus (7-8) and Netherlands’ Colin Ackermann (7-18). His bowling masterclass played a pivotal role in Rajshahi’s seven-wicket victory over Dhaka Capitals.
“It couldn’t have happened unless I had imagined it (laughs),” Taskin remarked when reflecting on his performance. “To get wickets, you need the favor of luck. Alhamdulillah, I’m executing my skills well. The important thing is to bowl well; the number of wickets can fluctuate. Thanks to Allah.”
Dominating the BPL Bowling Charts
Taskin’s feat also made him the bowler with the best figures in BPL history. In addition, he overtook Rubel Hossain to become the second-highest wicket-taker in the league, with 112 wickets. His record includes the joint-most five-wicket hauls in the BPL, further cementing his legacy.
“Five-fers are always special in any format. It’s a big achievement,” Taskin said. “As a boy from Bangladesh, my name will be there in the BPL even after I retire. It’s a proud moment for me.”
Challenges and Execution in BPL
Taskin highlighted the challenges of bowling in the BPL due to the sporting nature of the wickets. “The margin for error is small. Loose balls are not forgiven. This is good for both our bowlers and batters,” he explained.
He emphasized the importance of execution: “The first two to three overs with the new ball are challenging for the batters. Then, as time progresses, it becomes flatter, providing opportunities for both batters and bowlers.”
