Bangladesh Cricket Board Seeks Government Approval for Security Consultant Ahead of Pakistan Tour

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials have announced that they have sought the government’s assistance in providing a security consultant for their upcoming tour of Pakistan. The Bangladesh team is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on August 17 to participate in a two-match Test series, part of the ICC Test Championship. The matches will take place in Rawalpindi from August 21-25 and in Karachi from August 30 to September 3.

Traveling to Pakistan often raises concerns for international cricket teams due to the country’s political situation. BCB Cricket Operations Chairman, Jalal Yunus, emphasized that safety is a priority and that the Pakistan Cricket Board has assured them of state-level security for the tour. “The responsibility of ensuring our safety lies with them (Pakistan), and we agreed to proceed with the tour only after they guaranteed state-level security,” Yunus stated in a press conference on Wednesday.

He further explained, “During the Asia Cup, our team visited Pakistan and received state-level security, which reassured us. We decided to go ahead with this tour based on their commitment to providing the same level of security.” Yunus also noted that other international teams have recently toured Pakistan and were satisfied with the security arrangements provided.

While acknowledging the general concerns regarding security, Yunus assured that the BCB had thoroughly reviewed the situation and received all necessary assurances from the Pakistani authorities. “We have requested the government to provide us with a security consultant for the tour to maintain continuous communication with the local authorities on security matters,” he added.

Yunus also confirmed that none of the players had expressed any objections to touring Pakistan. Prior to the Test series, the Bangladesh A team will travel to Islamabad for two four-day matches and three 50-over games. This will serve as a preparation for the main Test series, as the team will not have a separate practice game after arriving in Pakistan on August 17. Key players like Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque, along with several other Test cricketers, have been included in the squad for the opening four-day game.
