Australia’s T20 World Cup 2024 Squad Excludes Smith and Fraser-McGurk
Cricket Australia has made a significant announcement, revealing a strong 15-member men’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and United States.
As anticipated, the reigning champions of the 2021 edition have omitted seasoned batsman Steve Smith, who has been notably inconsistent in recent times in the shortest format.
Furthermore, they have also overlooked Jake Fraser-McGurk, despite his outstanding batting displays in the ongoing Indian Premier League season.
Experienced all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been appointed as the captain of Australia for the prestigious event.
The Australian top-order appears formidable, with the explosive opening partnership of David Warner and Travis Head, supported by captain Marsh, expected to bat at number three.
Veteran players Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis have been selected as the batting all-rounders, along with Cameron Green.
Tim David and Josh Inglis are set to serve as Australia’s finishers in the competition, with Matthew Wade included in the squad as the reserve keeper-batsman.
The well-known quartet of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Nathan Ellis will lead the Australian pace attack, while Adam Zampa will lead the spin bowling unit alongside Ashton Agar.
